Slow Food: Celebrate Local Foods

Originally scheduled for October 1, 2005, this event has been cancelled and will be incorporated with a Local Foods Festival in 2006. Sign our Guestbook, and we will keep you posted!

Join us for a day of GROW, COOK, TASTE and LIVE demonstrations, information sessions and a multicourse “slow” lunch. Meet regional growers, talk with like-minded people, and learn about the people and places that create quality food in our region. Slow Food Piedmont Triad and O.Henry Hotel presents Greensboro's first Slow Food Symposium, a festival celebrating local foods.Slow Food Piedmond Triad

What is Slow Food?

Slow Food was founded in 1989 to celebrate good food and to protect the pleasures of the table from the sameness of fast food and fast life. Slow Food promotes gastronomical culture, sponsors taste education, conserves agricultural biodiversity, and protects traditional foods from disappearing. It has over 80,000 members in over 50 countries, publishes food guides, books, and magazines, targets and supports endangered foods, and holds hundreds of workshops and conferences every year. For more complete information, go to www.slowfoodusa.org.

Is There a Local Slow Food Chapter?
A Piedmont Triad chapter (called convivium) of Slow Food was formed in 2004. Local initiatives include creating a local food guide of growers, markets, shops and restaurants; organizing dinners at “slow” restaurants; supporting edible school yards; creating a documentary about Piedmont farmers; and coordinating farm days and tours. Also, look for a Slow Food trip to the organic farm-estate, Spannocchia (near Siena, Italy) in the fall of 2006. For more information, go to their Web site .
