Green Hill Center for North Carolina Art
Located downtown in the Greensboro Cultural Center, this visual arts center/gallery features changing exhibitions by North Carolina artists and a variety of educational programs for children and adults. Fine arts and crafts are for sale in the gift shop, including original works in glass, fiber, and wood, as well as pottery, jewelry, and paintings. Just three miles from O.Henry Hotel.
Weatherspoon Art Museum
With six galleries and a sculpture courtyard, Greensboro's contemporary art museum is nationally recognized for its exhibitions of modern and contemporary art. Its outstanding collection of more than 5,000 objects includes paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints and photographs and objects in miscellaneous media. Highlights include the Dillard Collection of Art on Paper and the Cone Collection of prints and bronzes by Henri Matisse. Located 2.5 miles from the O.Henry Hotel.
University Galleries at NC A&T State University
The NC A&T State University Galleries are comprised of two collections, the H.C. Taylor Art Collection and the Mattye Reed African Heritage Collection. Established in 1956, the H.C. Taylor Collection gallery fearures art that emphases cultures and people from around the world. It includes works by Romare Bearden, John Biggers, Alma Thomas, Charles Alston, Hale Woodruff and Varnette P. Honeywood. The Mattye Reed African Heritage collection consists of more than 6,000 artifacts that include sculptures, masks, figures, musical instruments, textiles and household implements. More than 35 African countries are represented in this collection; among them, Ethiopia, Ghana and Nigeria, as well as Haiti and other countries in the Diaspora. This collection is the southeast's largest repository on the history and culture of African American life in North Carolina. Located in the historic Dudley Building on the NC A&T State University campus, open Monday-Friday. Located five miles from O.Henry Hotel.
African American Atelier
The Atelier Art Gallery exhibits original artwork by local, regional and national African-American and ethnic artists and is dedicated to providing educational programs to the community's youth, elderly and disadvantaged. The Atelier's activities and events appeal to a wide range of ages and ethnic groups. The gift shop offers an array of African-American gifts, cards and prints. Located adjacent to the Green Hill Center for NC Art, three miles from the O.Henry.
